American wizards live lives that are quite similar to non magical people. This is because they have found it much easier to hide their magical nature by living like no-maj folks. Assimilation is vital in American Wizarding life because there are still no-maj groups who believe in magic and that it is evil, and their main desire is to rid of U.S. of wizardry.
Many wizards utilize technology as well as magic; However, technological devices have to be adjusted in order to be functional in magical atmospheres. In recent years, devices that are a hybrid of magic and technology (magitech) have arisen to be utilized in the daily lives of magical people. These devices are indistinguishable from their non-magical counterparts by anyone other than magical people.
Many wizards drive cars, watch television, read no-maj news papers, talk on cellular phones, use firearms, etc. They typically only utilize magic in the privacy of their homes or in like company. Use of magic in mixed society must be performed with great discretion, and much of a student's time in Ilvermorny is learning how to preform magic discretely.
Magical folk do, however, enjoy many aspects of life that are unique to their people. They have their own news papers, books, foods, drinks, entertainment, currency, banks, sports, clothing, prisons, courts, and of course, their own school.
The Supreme Magical Court of the United States is located within MACUSA headquarters.
The most notorious wizard prison in the U.S. is Gormlaith Penitentiary, named after the despicable witch who tried to murder the founders of Ilvermorny when the school was still in its infancy. Its exact location is unknown to most wizards and witches, especially the ones who are locked up within its walls.
